Shelly A. Biesel

Broadly, my research examines equity at the crossroads of economic development and environmental change.

Currently I am involved with two projects. My dissertation research focuses on gender-differentiated risk associated with biofuel development in Brazil.

I also work with Don Nelson on a second project in Northeast Brazil, using anthropological and applied understandings of water ethics to investigate water allocation and governance.

Research Interests:
Political ecology, feminist theory, energy, ethics, water, Brazil and U.S. South.
